What is Contemporary Art

Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the late 20th century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and the technologically advancing world. Their art is a dynamic combination of materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that challenge traditional boundaries and defy easy definition. Diverse and eclectic, contemporary art as a whole is distinguished by the very lack of a uniform, organizing principle, ideology, or ‘ism.’ Contemporary art is part of a cultural dialogue that concerns larger contextual frameworks such as personal and cultural identity, family, community, and nationality.(Wikipedia)

In other words “Contemporary art is where everything goes, whatever it is it’s ok, it could be a piece of wood you find in the street and if you call it contemporary art, then it’s that.

It used to be, i don’t know how many years ago that a piece of art was art because it represented something that anybody could understand, but in today’s modern art it seems like the only person that knows what art piece represents is the artist, in today’s modern art anybody can be an artist.
You can make contemporary art just by saying it is contemporary art.

I took the photo above at the MOCA museum in Los Angeles Ca. USA, this exhibit was in a room by itself, and before you went in one of the museum employees stopped you at the entrence and warned you of very explicit disturbing images in the exhibit, and they were very disturbing, i didn’t photograph them because they were very disturbing, they were photos of real dead people dismembered, probably taken in accidents in aviation or runover by cars, that was the art that artist was exhibiting alongside the maniquins you see in the photo, i have a strong stomach so they really didn’t affect me but i didn’t see the art in them.

It may be that this is the consequence of the lack of true talent, it’s the need the our society has to fill in the void, but it also could be that to be an artist that could be considered to expose your work in a very important gallery you only have to have the right conections and once you gain momentum that’s it your in and everybody especially museums of contemporary art will exhibit anything you produce, it doesn’t matter if it’s crap, actually there is an artist that made art out of his poop, it was italian artist Piero Manzoni, he canned his poop in 30 Grams tin cans and called them Artists shit, this was in the 1960s they now are selling for $30,000.00 dlls. each.
